Lynyrd Skynyrd is a legendary rock and roll band that helped create what is now known as the Southern hard rock style of music. Although initially forming together as a band in the mid-1960s and performing under the name The Noble Five, band members changed their name to Lynryd Skynyrd in 1972. A year later, these Southern rock superstars released their self titled debut album and within no time the band seems to reach super stardom. With songs like "Gimme Three Steps", "Tuesday's Gone", "Simple Man", and the rock anthem "Free Bird", Lynyrd Skynyrd's debut album was a major hit with lovers of rock and roll music. While a tragic 1977 plane crash killed various crew members and band members Ronnie Van Zant, Steve Gaines, Cassie Gaines, Lynryd Skynyrd overcame tragedy to continue a decade spanning career that earned them an induction into the 2006 Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.
