John Legend, born John Legend Stephens, was born December 28, 1978 in Springfield, Ohio. This Grammy award winning singer, songwriter and actor began his career collaborating with other artists such as Jay-Z, Kanye West and the band, Slum Village. He also sang backup for Alicia Keys and played piano for Lauryn Hill. After these successes, Legend released a debut album called Get Lifted in 2004. This album went on to win a Grammy Award for best R&B album in 2006. In October 2006, Legend released another album called Once Again, which eventually rose number 3 on the Billboard 200 charts. He also continued to be a collaborator with many artists such as Mary J. Blige, Jay-Z, Fort Minor, Sergio Mendes, The Blackeyed Peas, Fergie and many more. January 2008 brought an opportunity to make a video for President Barack Obama. The video was produced by will.i.am. and was for the song "Yes We Can". In the same year, he got an acting role in a movie called Soul Men. The role was just a singing role, but it did give his acting career a start. Since then, he was also in the movie, The People's Speak, which was a feature documentary film. John Legend has also done many good deeds for the community including helping victims of Hurricane Katrina as well as helping the poor. Legend continues to be a hot music star who plays live to his fans on tour.
