Esperanza Spalding is a woman who is best known for her jazz bassist and singing abilities that she combines to create her own blend of jazz infused, genre spanning music. In 2011, Esperanza Spalding won the Grammy for Best New Artist making her the very first jazz musician to win this prestigious honor. She has released 3 albums, 2006's Junjo, 2008's Esperanza and 2010's Chamber Music Society and will soon release an album titled Radio Music Society. Although Esperanza Spalding is a relative new comer to the music scene, she has been playing music since she taught herself to play the violin at only 5 years old. Along with playing the violin, Esperanza Spalding also plays the oboe, the clarinet, and bass and she can sing in a variety of languages that include Spanish and Portuguese. She first began playing in concert at age 15 and even landed a spot on the 2008 Ella Fitzgerald tour "For Ella".
