Born Declan Patrick MacManus, Elvis Costello picked the moniker of the late King of Rock and Roll as a tribute to his own father. The early 70's saw his beginning in English pubs before moving on as one of the leading vocalists for the New Wave Punk sound that was taking over Britain. The release of his first studio album, My Aim Is True, gave Costello the freedom to quit mundane life and begin a career as a professional singer-songwriter. His youthful position as a leading vocalists was highlighted by numerous chart topping hits and his often rebellious stage appearances and very publicized brawls. With more than twenty studio albums to his name, Costello is highly revered for heavy word-play in songs, more so than other pop artists of his generation. He was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2003 and was named one of Rolling Stone's 100 Greatest Artists of All Time. Costello has played and collaborated with some of the biggest names in the music industry, including Paul McCartney, Tony Bennett, Lucinda Williams, and Rubén Blades. He cites Joni Mitchell as a very influential figure in his music career. Elvis Costello also has his own block on the European Walk of Fame and has been nominated as Best British Male for the Brit Awards in the United Kingdom.
