Deerhunter is the brainchild of controversial pop rock star Brandford Cox. Core group members Bradford Cox, Moses Archuleta, Frankie Broyles, Josh McKay and Lockett Pundt formed the quintet in 2001 in Atlanta, Georgia. The group has described their sound as ambient punk in recent press releases. However, critics have recognized a wide range of sounds and musical influences from the band's output. Critics have described Deerhunter's music as ambient, alternative, experimental, noise rock, alt rock, neo-glam, post-punk and shoegaze. Deerhunter is known for the strange stage antics of Bradford Cox, who usually dresses in women's clothing as well as conducts controversial interviews that have garnished him one of the most unpredictable acts in rock. Nevertheless, Deerhunter has transcended through many line up changes over the years as well as a fatal death of one of Deerhunter's members. The group has released six full-length studio albums since 2003. The most recent full-length studio offering was released in 2013, which was called Monomania. In addition, Deerhunter has toured with some of the most well-known groups in the rock genre. Most notably, Deerhunter has opened for Nine Inch Nails, TV on the Radio, Project Pat, The Smashing Pumpkins, Yeah Yeah Yeahs and Spoon as well as headlined the annual Austin Psych Fest music festival in 2013.
