Deap Vally formed in Los Angeles, California, in 2011, with members Lindsey Troy and Julie Edwards. The two met one another when Troy attended a crochet class that Edwards taught. They bonded over a shared love of the blues and went on to create the band. Their sound has been described as alternative rock or garage rock heavily influenced by the blues. Deap Vally released their debut single "Gonna Make My Own Money" with Ark Recordings in 2012. A second single, "End of the World," was released with Island Records. It debuted on BBC Radio 1's Zane Lowe's Hottest Records in the World. The duo subsequently appeared at a live concert during BBC Radio Rocks Week that was transmitted into Zane Lowe's show. Deap Vally toured music festivals throughout the UK during 2012, including appearances at the Latitude Festival and Reading Festival. They supported The Vaccine during their 2012 UK tour and the group performed as the opening act at four of Muse's European shows in December 2012. Deap Vally went on to perform with Thurston Moore and Dinosaur Jr. in Japan. Their debut album Sistrionix was released in 2013 with additional time spent performing at festival in the UK. Deap Vally was nominated for "Best New Band" at the Classic Rock Awards in 2013.
