Pronounced "Churches", this Glasgow trio, only just finding their beginnings in 2011 together, have already exploded on to the electro-rock and snythpop scene and were recommended by the BBC as promising new talent. Current members of Chvrches are Lauren Mayberry (vocals), Iain Cook (synthesizers, back-up vocal), and Martin Doherty (synthesizers). Prior to meeting, each of the three band members had their individual projects and studies. By 2011, Cook was Mayberry's producer and asked her to demo for Doherty. To avoid confusion with major searches for "churches" and other religious institutions, the trio decided to switch the "U" of churches with "V". With their first album due in late 2013, it stands to note that Chvrches is already turning heads with their first few singles. "The Mother We Share" and "Lies", said to be written and recorded in two days, were hailed for their catchy electropop beats and uplifting melodies. In 2012, they ranked 5th for the BBC's Sound of 2013.
