Information of Bon Iver
Bon Iver is a folk music group created by Justin Vernon in 2007, with an interesting background story. One member of the group, guitarist Michael Noyce was a music student of Vernon's. Matthew McCaughan connected with Vernon during an indie-rock tour in May 2007 while Vernon was in concert at a 3-day Austin City Limits Music Festival in Texas. The name 'Bon Iver' stems from the French word 'bon hiver' meaning good winter. According to Vernon, he became fascinated with the term watching a Northern Exposure DVD while recovering from a case of mono at a cabin owned by his father in Wisconsin. Apparently in an attempt to escape a 3-month stint of 'cabin fever' and a mind suddenly filled with interesting lyrics and tunes seeming to come out of nowhere, Vernon became a one-man band recording songs which eventually evolved into his 2007 album 'For Emma, Forever Ago'. Vernon first began promoting his album making 500CDs of some of the songs which he paid for himself. A videoclip collection of some of these can be found at . Album fame appears to have mushroomed following a 2007 posting on My Old Kentucky Blog. By 2008, the album fast caught on in the UK. Following interviews resulting from several recording inquires, Bon Iver ultimately selected Jaggaguwar, known for its indie-rock genre. Various songs from the album have been heard on venues such as NPR 'track of the day' and on TV prime-time shows such as Grays Anatomy(ABC) and Chuck (NBC).
