Martin Laurent Picandet is a French born DJ in the genre of electro-house music. Martin, who was born on September 22, 1976, performs under the name Martin Solveig. He acquired the name Solveig in order to pay tribute to a French actress named Solveig Dommartin.
Martin's exposure into the music world came from time spent in a church choir during his childhood. Because of this, he acquired his first conceptual understandings of music which were based on classical music theory. While in this choir, he performed as a soprano soloist.
At the tender age of thirteen, DJ Martin Solveig got his first turntables. These turntables are ultimately what made him decide to embark on his career in electronic music instead of the classic music he was accustomed to. By the age of eighteen, he was honing his skills and performing at Paris nightclubs. He was a regular at popular clubs such as Claude Monnet, L'Enfer, Le Queen and Les Bains-Douches.
Solveig hasn't only had success in the DJ world. Martin has also performed in other professions that have brought him acclaim. Martin hosts a weekly radio show called C'est La Vie which broadcasts worldwide and in his hometown of Paris on FG DJ Radio. Along with doing radio, Solveig is also a producer, signer and songwriter. To date, he has released five studio albums with his first album, Sur la Terre, debuting in June of 2002. The Sur la Terre album was released on Solveig's independently owned label Mixture Stereophonic.
