Angus and Julia Stone are brother-sister Australian folk-blues duos that formed in Sydney in 2006. Since then, the brother-sister folk-blues duos have released two studio albums; A Book like This, which was released in 2007, and Down the Way, which were released in 2010, with a self-titled third album out in 2014..
In 2006, Julia returned to Australia after residing in South America for some time. She encouraged Angus to start performing as a dual. One of their dual performances was at the Coogee Bay Hotel. They continuously played split sets with each providing backing vocals from the other’s material. As a dual, the siblings did perform in front of two hundred people packed in a tent at the Splendour in the Grass festival in Byron Bay. They continued to perform as a dual group. At the end of 2006, the siblings signed a worldwide publishing deal with ATV Music Publishing.
Their parents played as folk duos before Angus and Julia Stone were born. During their teen years, Angus started writing pop songs and did learn how to play the guitar while recuperating from a snowboarding accident. Julia taught trumpet.
Working as a team, Angus and Julia decided to collaborate on their musical endeavors in early 2006. In terms of composing material, they each wrote their own materials and they worked together on structure and harmonies. Julia’s song-writing has been described as highly romantic confessional relationship song related; Angus songs are described to as more pop oriented.
