The Stone Roses are considered one of the greatest British pop bands of the last thirty years. Ian Brown, John Squire, Gary “Mani” Mounfield and Alan “Reni” Wren in Manchester, England formed the Stone Roses in 1983. The band split up in 1996 and 2001, but the group has reemerged in 2012 with a handful of tour dates and new music on the way. In 2012, The Stones Roses launched a sold out limited run of tour dates called the Reunion Tour. The band's first eponymous studio album release launched them into overnight success and fame. It was the group's first breakthrough studio album, which was flowered with endless praise and critical acclaim. In fact, The Stones Roses’ first album is regarded as one of the best British albums of all time as well as a landmark album of pristine engineering, mixing and production. Although the band has only released two official studio albums and numerous singles, they have gone on to become one of the most influential pop and rock acts of all time. Unlike most of their '80s and '90s British contemporaries who were notorious for self-promotion skills, The Stones Roses remained outside of the limelight and paid little public attention to their success. This is one of the most essential features that separated them from other contemporaries like Blur, Oasis and Spiritualized. The group has cited Led Zeppelin, The Sex Pistols and New Order as major influences on their original sound.
