Info

The Presidents of the United States of America, an alternative rock band commonly called The Presidents or PUSA, formed in Seattle in 1993. The founding members were Chris Ballew and Dave Dederer who met in school. They performed a number of shows as "The Lo-Fis" before changing their name and recording a cassette, "Froggystyle," in 1994 that they sold at their shows. That same year they signed with PopLlama Records, a small label based in Seattle, and went on to release their debut album. Columbia Records signed the band in 1995 and re-released the album on their label. In 1998 the band released what was to be a final album, "Pure Frosting," before Ballew left to pursue other interests. However, they reformed in 2000 with a new single, "Jupiter," which led to a full album, "Freaked Out and Small." The band broke up again, only to come back together in 2004 to release "Love Everybody" on their own record label, PUSA Inc. They have released five studio albums, three compliation CDs, and garnered two Grammy nominations throughout their career, but have maintained a loyal fanbase thanks to energetic live performances.
