The Afghan Whigs are an American rock band from Cincinnati, Ohio. Although the period of their original heyday was the 80's to just after the turn of the millennium before a breakup, they have since managed to reform and mount a new schedule of touring. They have not yet issued a new album, but are reserving the right to do so at some time in the near future. Long time members of the group include Greg Dulli (rhythm guitar and lead vocals), John Curleu (bass), and Rick McCollum (lead guitarist). The group's original drummer, Steve Earle, has not participated in the recent reunion. The Afghan Whigs became known for their initially grunge influenced, "alternative" sound, which later evolved into a more modern, polished style of pop rock. The group also became notorious for jumping ship from label to label, as they released a series of albums on Sub Pop, Elektra, and then Columbia. The group's most well known and best selling release was Black Love, which hit a maximum chart position of Number 79 on Billboard's Top 200 chart. Since then, the group has gone through a cycle of breakups and reformations, but has managed to keep a high degree of popularity and bankability among the "alternative" demographic.
