Information of Lorde
New Zealand singer and songwriter Lorde (Ella Marija Lani Yelich-O'Connor) has made a wave in the pop world, thanks to her relative youth (18) and the quality of her lyrics and music. Lorde released her first EP, entitled "The Love Club," in 2012 at the age of 16. Her first single "Royals" debuted at number one on the New Zealand Top 40 and reached number one on the Billboard Hot 100. She is the first New Zealand Solo artist to top the Billboard charts. Her 2013 album, "Pure Heroine," has received critical acclaim for her strong voice, insightful lyrical stance, and minimalistic musical style. Lorde's lyrics examine the banality of teen pop's focus on partying and getting rich. Her music, provided by producer Joel Little with input from Lorde, consists primarily of simple beats backed by basic, but catchy, synthesizer melodies. Songs are usually written in a mournful minor key, which highlights and enhances her sometimes sharply melancholic lyrical edge. Although several songs, including "Royals," were pulled from the album as singles, it was not designed to be a collection of chart topping favorites. Lorde wrote the songs to create a "cohesive" work, while producer Joel Little created a simple, yet evocative, atmosphere to aurally link the songs. Themes of teenage angst and rejections of the banality of everyday problems recur over and over again throughout the album. Lorde is currently writing material for her second album and is starting to headline festivals around the world, including 2014's Coachella musical festival, Boston Calling, Rock in Rio Lisbon, among others.
