Information of John Butler

The John Butler Trio is a band from Fremantle, Australia. The multi-platinum roots and jam band was founded in 1998. The original cast consisted of lead vocalist and guitarist John Butler, drummer Jason McGann and bassist Gavin Shoesmith. After the band's initial creation, their career would jumpstart immediately. In 1998, the group released their debut album entitled John Butler. The quick start to their careers prompted the band to slow down and directed their attention towards touring. The group first toured across Western Australia in 1999. After gaining exposure from their first tour, John was invited to perform as a solo act for the folk rock band The Waifs. 1999 proved to be a successful year and was ended with another tour by the band but at the turn of the new millennium, the trio would finally achieve some of its highest levels of success.

The first decade of the new millennium yielded nothing but progress for the band. In 2001, the band released their sophomore album entitled Three. The album garnered much acclaim and was certified platinum. Along with winning the award for "Best Independent Release" at the 2001 Aria Music Awards for this album, the band held down the number three spot on Australia's alternative charts for nine months. This level of success would become common and repetitive for the band. Their next two studio albums Sunrise Over Sea, released in 2004, and Grand National, released in 2007 both went on to be certified platinum albums as well.
