Ivete Sangalo, an Axe, MPB, and pop singer and songwriter, is one of the best-selling Brazilian musical artists. Born in Bahia, she began singing in local talent competitions and bars at a young age. She soon caught the eye of Sony Music who signed her. They then chose her to be the lead singer of the group, Banda Eva, when the band reformed in 1993. Despite her success with the group, she ventured out on a solo career and in 1999 released her first solo album, "Ivete Sangalo." The next year she released "Beat Beleza." Both albums were certified platinum. Ivete's star continued to rise in her native Brazil with her third album, "Festa." Her single, "Festa," from the same named album, became the most popular song in Brazil in 2001. Ivete released more albums, and in 2005 "Supernovas" was certified triple platinum in short time. Her success in Brazil led to success in the United States where she opened for Beyonce, and then headlined her own concert at Madison Square Gardens which was part of a mini North American tour in 2010 that included The American Airlines Theater in Miami and the DCU Center in Worcester. Her eighth studio album, "Real Fantasia," was released in 2012.
