Danny Brown, born Daniel Sewell, is an American hip-hop artist and rapper out of Detroit, Michigan. While he always knew he wanted to be a rapper and had moderate success in 2003 with hip hop group Rese'vor Dogs, it wasn't until his release from prison in 2007 that he pursued music as a full career in earnest. Danny Brown has been attached to many famous names in rap and hip-hop. He caught the attention of Roc-A-Fella records and worked in various artists' studios, but that partnership never came to fruition. From there he worked with Tony Yayo of G-Unit records, but despite the collaboration G-Unit Records, 50 Cent's label, never signed him. It wasn't until 2010 that he released his first solo studio album, Hybrid. It was on this album that he used a higher pitched voice, one that has become synonymous with his unique style. He signed to Fool's Gold Records in 2010 and in 2011 released his next album, XXX, as a free download. While Danny Brown's next album, Old, ran into numerous production problems and varying release dates, he stayed very much in the public consciousness by performing at festivals like Coachella and collaborating with other artists, such as The Avalanches.
