Surfer Blood is an alternative rock band from the United States. Native to West Palm Beach, FL, the band consists of guitarist and lead vocalist, John Paul Pitts, guitarist and backing vocalist, Thomas Fekete, bass guitarist and backing vocalist, Kevin Williams and drummer, Tyler Schwarz. The beginnings of the band go back to the late 2000s when John Paul Pitts and Tyler Schwarz started playing music together in the Orlando, FL area. A trip to the Ultra Music Festival in Miami introduced them to Thomas Fekete, and the trio began to play together. Known then as Jabroni Sandwich, it wasn't until Schwarz began telling a story to Pitts about a surfer backpack he had in high school did they decide to change the name to Surfer Blood. The band released their debut single, "Swim", in 2009. The song placed as the 37th Best Track of 2009 on the Pitchfork's Best Songs of 2009 list. Following that accomplishment, the band released their first album, Astro Coast in early 2010. As soon as the album was released, the band was asked to attend the NPR music party at the famed SXSW music festival and in May of 2010, they played the ATP music festival as well as the San Miguel Primavera Sound Festival, which took place in Spain. They also participated in music festivals in both Japan and Australia. In October, 2011, Surfer Blood released their EP, Tarot Classic. Throughout the rest of 2011, the band toured with the group, the Pixies and in January, 2012, they made their debut on Late Night with Jimmy Fallon and in February, the band went back to the studio to record their second album, Pythons. The first single from the album, "Weird Shapes", was released in January, 2013.
