Born in Detroit, MI on July 10, 1942 as Sixto Diaz Rodriguez, Rodriguez, sometimes referred to as Jesus Rodriguez, is a Mexican-American folk singer who uses his songs to address the plight of the poor and politically disenfranchised people of society. The son of working class Mexican immigrants, Rodriguez has experience with many of the topics he communicates in his songs. In 1967 Rodriguez released his debut single "I'll Slip Away", and he released a total of two studio albums, 1970's Cold Fact and 1971's Coming From Reality, before giving up on music to pursue an unsuccessful political career. While the 1980s proved to silence Rodriguez's singing voice, he made a comeback in the early 1990s that is still going strong today. Although the earlier days of his career proved to be relatively unsuccessful for Rodriguez, a new generation of music lovers has recently been introduced to his music through the 2012 Oscar award winning documentary Searching For Sugar Man.
