Information of Robert Earl Keen

Robert Earl Keen is an American singer and songwriter known for being one of the first "Americana" artists after the genre was recognized as separate from country or folk music. Robert's early years saw him playing bluegrass and folk music. While in college at Texas A&M, he would often have 'picking' parties on the front porch with classmate Lyle Lovett. The two co-wrote "The Front Porch Song" which both used on their debut album. While Lovett released his album on the label Curb Records, Keene decided to self-produce and self-finance his debut, "No Kinda Dancer," in 1983. Robert Earl Keen's career spans 18 albums in over three decades. His music has been released both independently and through various record labels. Two of his albums, "Picnic" and "Walking Distance," were released on major label, Arista. He has also toured extensively, yet kept his roots in the Austin music scene alive. In 2012 he was inducted into the Texas Heritage Songwriters Hall of Fame alongside his longtime friend, Lyle Lovett.
