Information of Paul Heaton

Paul Heaton is an English Singer-Songwriter whose claim to fame began with The Housemartins; an alternative rock back who formed in 1983 and disbanded in 1988. The band released two back to back albums London 0 Hull 4 which went platinum and, The people who grinned themselves to death. Paul Heaton went on to form The Beautiful South with Dave Hemingway of the Housemartins. Their release of Choke in 1990 was their only UK number 1 hit single entitled A Little Time.

Jacqui Abbott and Paul Heaton go together exceptionally well, together they have a fluidity in their vocal blends and Jacqui has the ability to interpret his songs and bring them to heart.

Jacqui Abbot joined The Beautiful South in 1994 replacing former lead singer Briana Corrigan. Heaton had heard Abbot singing at an after-party and hired her on the spot. Jacqui Abbot fronted The Beautiful South from 1994-2000 when she left the band. Abbott's first album with the band was Miaow in 1994, which showed off her raspy yet melodic vocal abilities. The Beautiful South found more commercial appeal and success with Jacqui Abbot on board than any other lead singer fronting the band.

In 1996 they released Blue Is the Color album which went on to sell over a million units and showcased the band's progressive shift towards a country music sound, which was accepted by the public and commercial radio. By 1997 they were headlining Stadium shows in the UK.
