Information of New Kids on the Block
New Kids on the Block are a boy band from Boston, Massachusetts. They got their start in 1984 after producer, Maurice Starr, held auditions in the Boston area, which attracted the likes of over 500 Boston boys. Among them was young Donnie Wahlberg, the first person to catch the eyes of Starr.
Wahlberg eventually was joined by the rest of the band and played a role in bringing Jordan and Jonathan Knight, Joey McIntyre and Danny Wood together to form New Kids on the Block. New Kids on the Block, their initial album, came in 1986. It wasn’t greeted warmly and never gained the band much popularity. That, however, came with their second album release.
Hangin’ Tough was released in September of 1988. After the lack of success of their first album, New Kids on the Block broke through significantly with Hangin’ Tough. They began to gain fans from all over the world with their sophomore release, beginning to play on television programs and touring to screaming fans everywhere. By the early 1990s, New Kids on the Block had become one of the most popular acts in the United States.
The group’s popularity perhaps reached its peak with the release of Step by Step in 1990. It went triple Platinum in the United States alone, and prompted a very elaborate tour. Their fourth studio album, Face the Music, saw the band’s popularity eventually flicker, leading to their breakup in 1994. The band did eventually reunite in 2008 and have been on tour and have released two albums since.
