The Misfits are an iconic American punk band founded in 1977 in Lodi, New Jersey by Glenn Danzig (vocals) and Jerry Only (bass). Named after Marilyn Monroes final movie, they are recognized as being the one of originators of the horror-punk sub-genre which blended hardcore punk with science fiction and B horror movie imagery and themes. Credited with influencing heavy metal, hardcore punk, and alternative rock bands in the 1990s and early 2000s, The Misfits maintained a cult following known as the Fiend Club and were known for having a darker sound than many of their contemporaries on the punk scene in the late 1970's and early 1980's. After producing three studio albums the original lineup dissolved in 1983. Jerry Only and his brother Doyle retained the rights to record and perform as The Misfits after a lengthy legal battle. In 2011 The Misfits released a new album titled The Devils Rain with a lineup of Jerry Only (vocals/bass), Dez Cadena (guitar), and Eric Chupacabra Arce (drums), their fifth studio album since 1983.
