Information of Michael Franti and Spearhead

Michael Franti (April 21, 1966) is an iconic American musician, songwriter and poet. Known for his many colorful collection of singles and albums, he leads a successful career. He is the chief musician and lead vocalist of his band, Michael Franti and Spearhead (1994). Their records intermixes rock, funk, folk, jazz and reggae. Franti also plays an elemental role as a humanitarian of world peace and equality.

His inspiration to compose songs became a vision after listening to hours of punk, hip hop and reggae music. Through self-learning and his religious zeal to write poetry in his early years at a prominent San Francisco university, Franti later learned to create soulful, evocative compositions. In the late 1980s, he joined "The Beatnigs," a punk-focused rock band, but took a slow road to stardom.

In the 1990s, Franti moved on to his next project, "Disposable Heroes". Their songs highlighted controversial, politically charged lyrics. Later, their Island-Records-funded studio album, "Hypocrisy is the Greatest Luxury" received constructive criticism and industry recognition for its motivational, social commentary. Following this success, "U2," one of Dublin's finest rock band, also chose them to open their much-anticipated Zoo TV Tour. His album "Spare Ass Annie and Other Tales" serves many of legendary novelist, William Burroughs' titles as background soundtracks.

Franti's last project, "Michael Franti & Spearhead," still remains an asset to the modern music world. "Home" (1994), "Chocolate Supa Highway" (1997), "Stay Human" (2000), "Everyone Deserves Music" (2003) and "All Rebel Rockers" (2008) are some of their mainstream albums. Following the release of his album "Yell Fire" (2006), he also created an inspirational movie called "I Know I'm Not Alone". Prolific magazines such as Democracy Now! and Mother Jones have exposed the band's legacy. Their song "Light Up Ya Lighter" is also a feature soundtrack for renowned Iraq War Veteran, Tomas Jones, award-wining documentary. In 2008, his single 'Say Hey (I Love You)' with multi-talented, Jamaican-born songstress, Cherine Anderson earned him his first top 20 hit. The song landed the top 18 spot on US Hot 100 chart.

Franti was a feature at the "Rock the Vote" focused party, "The Green Ball" and "The Peace Ball," in observance of President Barack Obama's investiture. As a musical prodigy, he is aiding independent musicians to reach success. "All People" is his latest studio album release. This includes "I'm Alive," his latest single, which is a feature on video games such as "Rayman Legends" and "The Sims 4" (2013).
