Leonard Cohen is a musician and singer-songwriter whose career spans decades. He has received many accolades for his work including being inducted into the American Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, Canadian Music Hall of Fame, Canadian Songwriters Hall of Fame, and he is a Companion of the Royal Order of Canada, the highest honor the country offers.

Leonard Cohen released his first album, Songs of Leonard Cohen, in 1967. He had already found success as a songwriter with his song "Suzanne" becoming a hit for Judy Collins. Two other albums followed, along with a tour through America, Canada, and Europe in 1970. In 1974 Cohen collaborated with pianist and arranger John Lissauer and they spent two years on tour. Cohen then toured again as a solo artist and teamed up with Phil Spector who produced his album Death of a Ladies Man. Cohen's fame began to rise through the 80s and 90s, with songs being used in films such as "Natural Born Killers" and "Pump Up the Volume." He continued to create music throughout the 2000s, and toured in New Zealand and Australia in 2009.

Leonard Cohen may be most known for his song "Hallelujah." "Hallelujah" has been covered by over 200 artists across the world. While Cohen had moderate success with the song when it debuted in 1984, it has since become his most well recognized composition. He has released twelve albums over the course of his career, and had songs featured in numerous television shows and movies
