Lara Crokaert is a Belgian-Italian singer and songwriter. When on stage, performing and serenading audiences with her voice, she is known as Lara Fabian. The international superstar, born January 7, 1970, has produced classic songs in a multitude of genres including pop, French pop, pop rock and dance. She achieved much success with her career that began in the mid-80s. Proof of this can be seen in her total record sales which add up to a total of twelve million records sold worldwide.
Lara's career started at the tender age of fourteen. In 1988, Lara Fabian represented her country in the 33rd Eurovision Song Contest. Fabian performed a song called "Croire." Her performance earned her fourth place in the competition only to be beat out by Celine Dion who won. Though Lara didn't win the competition, her song became a single and was a hit in Europe. The track would go on to sell 500,000 copies.
Pursuit of her dreams lead Lara to North America where she began living in Canada. While in Canada, Fabian established her own publishing company and label called Productions Clandestines. This also lead to the production of her first self-titled album Lara Fabian. The album was performed completely in French and later released in August of 1991. Along with making albums with the French language, she has also used Italian, Spanish and Russian. English was used for her album produced in 2001. This album was also self-titled Lara Fabian.
