James Murphy is a Princeton Junction, NJ born electronic musician and DJ who fuses together sounds of electronica, disco, dance punk, and post-punk revival to create a unique sound that first gained him attention as a member of the electronic band LCD Soundsystem. With LCD Soundsystem, Murphy helped create the a critically acclaimed debut album which produced the hit single "Losing My Edge". In 2011 Murphy announced his retirement from LCD Soundsystem, and he went on to embark on his solo endeavors. Since leaving LCD Soundsystem, Murphy has recorded a song with Outkast's Andre 3000 and Gorillaz titled "Do Ya Thing", and he has appeared in the movie The Comedy. Murphy sites inspiration from artists like David Bowie, Sousix and the Banshees, Talking Heads, and The Velvet Underground, and these influences can be heard in the type of music he creates. Murphy is also the co-founder owner of the record label DFA Records.
