On September 22, 1958 one of the most beautiful singing voices mankind has ever heard arrived on earth in the person of Andrea Bocelli. Bocelli became totally blind as the result of an athletic accident at the age of 12. Born with the a never-give-up spirit Bocelli continued to be an inspiration to the world when in 1980 he graduated from Pisa University School of Law and served 1 year as a public defender. On his way to becoming the top classical solo artist of all time, Bocelli made his not only made his festival debut at the Sanremo Music Festival of 1994 but attained the highest score ever achieved by a newcomer. At the 1999 Grammy Awards, Bocelli became the first nominated for best new artist in the classical genre since Leontyne Price in 1961.With his album 'Sacred Arias' Bocelli became the top selling solo classical artist in history. In 1997, Bocelli's pop album 'Romanza' made him the top selling Italian pop artist of all time. In 2006, Bocelli achieved a star on Hollywood's Walk of Fame in 2010. Andrea Bocelli made his classical concert debut in December 1993. Since 1996, Bocelli has been on tour around the world and made his American debut at the Kennedy Center in Washington, DC. Since his first videoclip in 1998, Bocelli has continued to receive accolades from such musical giants and Pavarotti, Placido Domingo and Zuban Mahta. Destiny will always remember Bocelli by an Italian beach named in his honor in 2003.
