Tommy Emmanuel is best known for his unique and complex guitar playing and technique. Born in 1955 in Muswellbrook, New South Wales, Australia, Tommy Emmanuel has led a long and successful solo musical career. He is proficient at both the electric and acoustic guitar as well as the lap steel guitar. Tommy Emmanuel has cited Gretsch guitar legend, Chet Atkins as his main influence that inspired him to pick up the guitar. Since 1979, Tommy Emmanuel has released over twenty full length studio albums. He is still currently performing and recording original music compositions. After a long yearning to met Chet Atkins, Tommy Emmanuel wrote his hero a letter and the former invited him to pay a visit. In fact, the two have collaborated and recored music together. In addition, the duet between Tommy Emmanuel and Chet Atkins called "Smokey Mountain Lullaby" received a Grammy Award nomination. In addition to leading a prolific recording music career, Tommy Emmanuel has released 3 instructional guitar playing and technique videos on DVD. The influence of Tommy Emmanuel can be seen on a lot of Country and Western as well as Pop guitar players today who are fascinated by complex chord structures and complicated finger stylings. Further, Tommy Emmanuel still performs live today and continues to record original music with plans for a new upcoming album in the near future.
