Rock duo The Kills formed in 2000 and has produced four albums with a signature blues/punk sound. Their punk influence comes from British guitarist Jamie Hince, formerly of the band Discount. American singer Allison Mosshart brings a blues influence also found in her project The Dead Weather with White Stripes frontman Jack White. Hince and Mosshart go by the monikers “Hotel” and “VV” respectively in The Kills. Concert dates with popular indie bands like Le Tigre and festival performances in the UK have brought The Kills a dedicated fan base. A constant evolution of the band’s sound over their four albums—like stripped-down No Wow and poppier Midnight Boom—keeps The Kills on top of independent music’s it list and brings thousands of fans eager for more tour dates. The Kills were on a short hiatus while Mosshart recorded and toured with The Dead Weather, but returned in 2011 with album Blood Pressures—accompanied by a music video for its first single directed by Sophie Muller—and an international concert tour. Despite a primarily indie following, albums by The Kills have attained some relative chart success, with their debut 2003 album Keep on Your Mean Side reaching 47 in the UK and Blood Pressures reaching 37 in the US.
