Information of Ian Anderson

Ian Anderson was born in Scotland and grew up in Blackpool, Lancashire, England. He is best known as the lead vocalist for the British rock band Jethro Tull. He is a gifted musician who plays a number of instruments, including the flute, acoustic guitar, bass guitar, harmonica, mandolin, keyboard, saxophone, bouzouki, balalaika, and an assortment of whistles. He became interested in music during high school and studied fine art at the Blackpool College of Art. Besides a prolific career with Jethro Tull, Anderson has recorded independent projects and has made guest appearances with other several artists. Anderson released his first solo album, Walk Into Light, in 1983. It peaked at number 78 on the UK music charts. He went on to release five solo studio albums and one live album. Widely known as a flautist, Anderson began making bamboo flutes in the 1990s. He employs slight changes in the designs to create unusual sounds and techniques from the instruments. Anderson has received numerous awards over the course of his life, including an honorary Doctorate of Literature from Herot-Watt University in 2006 as well as an Honorary Doctorate of Letters from Abertay University in 2011. He was appointed a Member of the Order of the British Empire in 2008 and was was presented with the "Prog God" Award at the 2012 Progressive Music Awards.
