Belle And Sebastian are an indie pop and rock band from Glasgow, Scotland. The group was formed in 1996 by core founding members Stuart Murdoch and Stuart David. The name Belle and Sebastian was nicked from a kid's book in 1965 by Cécile Aubry. The name of the book was called Belle et Sébastien. The group has been compared to many popular New Wave and Pop groups such as U2, Echo and The Bunnymen, Nick Drake and The Smiths. Despite minor mainstream success and critical acclaim, the group has attained a massive underground following. The group signed to Rough Trade and Matador after they have released many singles and extended players over the years. The group has released 8 full-length studio albums since 1996's Tigermilk. Most recently, the group released their 8th studio offering called Belle and Sebastian Write About Love in 2010. Their most recent album was co-written and produced by Tony Hoffer. However, by the time the band released their 3rd album, they started to receive an ample amount of critical acclaim. The Boy with the Arab Strap was released in 1998 and is considered their most popular album to date. In fact, The Boy with the Arab Stap reached number 12 on the UK Music Charts. Many songs from this album were featured in TV shows as well as movies like High Fidelity. The band is said to be working on new material for their 9th full-length studio album.
