Wiley is a music producer, rapper and singer-songwriter from England. He was born in 1979 in Bow, East London. His real name is Richard Kylea Cowie, but goes under the stage name of Wiley. He is also nicknamed the godfather of grime and Eskiboy. Although he has spent his life growing up in London, his sound is profoundly influenced by his Caribbean roots, which emanate from Trinidad and Antigua. His first two U.K. single hits that charted in the top ten were "Wearing My Rolex" and "Never Be Your Woman". However, his first number one U.K. hit was with the single, "Heatwave". Wiley is heavily regarded as one of the innovators of the underground U.K. rap music scene. In addition, he is considered one of the pioneers of taking underground music to the mainstream in the United Kingdom. Wiley has released nine full-length studio albums since 2009. Additionally, Wiley released one extended player in 2011 called Chill Out Zone. In addition to becoming an influential rapper and songwriter, Wiley also is well-known for his occasional DJ performances and remixes.
