The Cat Empire is a ska and jazz band that was formed in Australia in 1999. Core members Ollie McGill, Felix Riebl, Ryan Monro, Jamshid Khadiwhala, Harry James Angus and Will Hull-Brown founded the band in Melbourne, Australia. Critics have described the sound of The Cat Empire as fusing jazz, Latin, rock, jazz, ska and funk into one synthetic and definable sound. Since 2003, The Cat Empire has released six albums as well as fifteen singles. In 2013, The Cat Empire released their sixth album called Steal The Light, which is out on Two Shoes Records and Inertia Records. The album features twelve tracks from the group as well as the hit single, "Brighter Than Gold". The Cat Empire is known for their elaborate and massive stage performance, which sometimes features more than fifteen people on state at any given time.
