John Mellencamp is an American singer who is known for his heartland style songs. Not only is he skilled with his voice, he can also play the harmonica and guitar. John's career began in 1976, however he didn't gain popularity until 1979 when his music gained fame in America. Before that, he gained fame in Australia. His first hit was, "I Need a Lover" recorded under the name John Cougar. His most famous and breakthrough album was titled, "American Fool." It was released in 1982 and carried such singles as "Jack and Diane" and "Hurts So Good" which he won a Grammy for. John Cougar Mellencamp was also inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2008, which is a great honor. It put him among such names as Buddy Holly and Bob Dylan. His life has been filled with concert dates, tour dates, and festival performances. He has recorded with many well-known labels including RCA, Mercury and Columbia. "Pink Houses" was one of many popular videos produced for John Mellencamp. The music video shows the typical Americana.
