Franz Ferdinand is an indie rock band from Glasgow, Scotland. Core members Alex Kapranos, Nick McCarthy, Robert Hardy and Paul Thomson formed the group in 2002. Franz Ferdinand's sound has been compared to Blur, The Stokes and Roxy Music. The group released their debut eponymous album in 2004. It reached number 3 on the UK Music Charts. For the making of their debut album, the band worked with well-known producer and engineer, Tore Johansson. The single, "Take Me Out" from the album reached number 3 on the UK Music Charts. The band's follow up sophomore release was 2005's You Could Have It So Much Better. This release ranked at number 1 on the UK Charts as well as number 8 on the US Music Charts. In 2009, the band released their 3rd full-length offering called Tonight: Franz Ferdinand. The album charted at number 2 in the UK and number 9 in the US Billboard Music Charts. The band released Blood, which was a compilation album of Dub music versions of their 3rd album. The band has been working on their 4th full-length album since 2010. It is tentatively scheduled for a 2013 release. In addition to recording their new album, the band has toured the world extensively as well as playing some of the major music festivals around the world. The band has stated that they are taking their time to record their new album, but will be touring off the back of its release.
