Royal Blood consists of a pair of longtime friends, as well as British musicians, from Brighton that decided to become a rock duo in 2013. Mike Kerr serves as both its vocalist and its bass guitarist, while Benji Talent provides drums. Royal Blood's sound, while definitely rock, has a range that varies from garage to blues; with comparisons to contemporary music groups like The Dead Weather, The Raconteurs, and The White Stripes. The duo's fame began when Matt Helders, drummer for the Arctic Monkeys, was seen performing with a Royal Blood shirt during the July concert, "Glastonbury Festival." Royal Blood released 500 copies of its first single, "Out of the Black" on November 11th of 2013, complete with a B-side in the track "Come On Over." The duo is represented by Warner Brothers Records, through Black Mammoth Records. Arctic Monkeys continued its support of the duo by bringing them along for two of its Finsbury Park performances in May of 2014. In addition to "Out of the Black," and "Come On Over," Royal Blood also produced the song "Little Monsters." All three songs were released in an album form in August of 2014. As far as awards go, Royal Blood has received a nomination for BBC Sound of 2014.
