Information of Example
Example is Elliot John Gleave, a 29-year-old rapper and singer from Fulham, London. He has released three albums and is associated with such acts as Calvin Harris, Lily Allen, The Streets, and Professor Green. Example was inspired to participate in hip-hop by his discovery of the Wu-Tang Clan and Snoop Dogg as a child. He entered his first rap battle at the age of 12. While attending university, he became a garage MC to earn some side money. He then met his longtime producer Joseph Gardner, and they created Example's first publicly available piece of music, a white-label single entitled "A Pointless Song." Subsequent singles caught the attention of record labels and landed him a deal with The Beats, the record label owned by Mike Skinner of The Streets. Since then, he has released three albums. His most recent is Playing in the Shadows, whose tour has taken up much of 2011. Example has made 27 festival appearances to promote the album. Example is a hot commodity in the English concert world. Example has also tried his hand at stand-up comedy and filmmaking. Mentored by Richard Herring, he has performed comedy in pubs and the Lyric Hammersmith theatre. For the music video of his single "What We Made," he filmed a documentary short depicting the current state of Chernobyl. Example's alias was inspired by the Latin phrase "exempli gratia," or "for example." This is commonly abbreviated as "e.g." which are Elliot John Gleave's first and last initials.
