Bat For Lashes is the stage name of Natasha Khan. Khan has become well known in the music industry for being a talented musician who plays multiple instruments. As a child growing up in England, Khan experienced the thrill of a screaming crowd while attending squash games of her father, who was a professional squash player and couch. This lead to her being enthralled by the idea of being in front of a crowd. At age 11, Khan taught herself to play piano and unwittingly began her music career. After studying music and visual arts at the University of Brighton she started working as a nursery school teacher. In her spare time, Khan wrote material that would eventually turn into her first studio album. Her first studio album "Fur For Gold" garnered her a lot of attention from the media, as well as from fans. The album was nominated for a Mercury Prize but it eventually lost, even though it was the favorite pick of the British media. In 2013, Khan was nominated for the "Best British Female" award by the Brit Awards. With several studio releases, Bat For Lashes has proven to be a lasting success in the Indie Pop world.
