Abel Makkonen Tesfaye (1990), also known as The Weeknd, is a Canadian R&B turned Pop star. The Weeknd is a profound musician whose lyrics often detail a range of sentimental issues about his past, drugs, family and love. The Weeknd's introduction to the music industry came with the release of his debut mixtape “Houses of Balloons”. Abel's stock continued to grow with features on singles with Wiz Khalifa and Toronto native, Drake. Following his signing to Universal Republic, Abel remastered, combined and released his earlier mixtapes along with three additional tracks titled “Trilogy”. The project was well received and achieved Platinum certification by the Recording Industry Association of America. The Weeknd took his career to new heights when he produced the soundtrack for the “Fifty Shades of Grey” film which was highly successful across global box offices. “Beauty Behind the Madness” was then released in 2015, becoming an international sensation and topping charts in the US, UK, Australia, Sweden and of course, his native Canada. The album featured songs such as “Can't Feel My Face” and “The Hills” which both featured on multiple single charts worldwide. Following collaborations with respected artists such as Kanye West, Future and Beyoncé, Abel dropped his long-awaited project “Starboy”. The album was a mainstream and incorporated a range of diverse musical styles. Since the release of his third studio album, Abel has produced the soundtrack for one of the highest grossing films in recent years, “Black Panther” and dropped the EP “My Dear Melancholy”.
