Andre Romelle Young (1965), or better known by his pseudonym Dr Dre is an American producer, rapper and entrepreneur. Dre is recognised as one of the originators of Gangsta Rap and G Funk. Dre rose to fame with the group N.W.A. alongside well-known rap artists DJ Yella, Ice Cube, Eazy-E and MC Ren. The group became well-known for their lyrics which protested police oppression, the harsh realities of growing up in South Los Angeles and combined this content with compelling beats. The group's downfall came when Ice Cube first left after a clash with the group's record label Ruthless Records over financials. Following his departure from N.W.A, Dre would go on to found Death Row Records with Suge Knight and the D.O.C., the record label grew to become one of the most recognisable and controversial labels in the music industry. Dre's premiere solo project, “The Chronic” was a roaring success consolidating Death Row as one of the Rap game's leading forces. The album received multiple certifications, featured in the music charts and gained mass critical acclaimed continued to collaborate with esteemed artists such as Snoop Dogg and 2Pac as well as help produce their albums. Following a dispute, Dre left Death Row and established his own, independent label Aftermath Records. Dr Dre set his sights on discovering new, raw talent to work with and assisting their prospective music careers. Consequentially, through his devotion to helping talents such as Eminem and 50 Cent, his third album “Detox" was not given priority. Dre through his establishment of Beats and partnership with Jimmy Iovine ventured into entrepreneurship. In 2015, Beats was bought by the Apple corporation, making Dre the “first billionaire in Hip Hop”. Dre has continued working with upcoming talent in the Hip Hop world with the likes of Kendrick Lamar, YBN Cordae and Anderson. Paak. In 2015, a film was released detailing the story of NWA and was well received by international audiences. In addition, the group's cultural impact and standing in the Hip Hop world was rewarded with an induction into the Rock´ N Roll Hall of Fame in 2016. Dre has undoubtedly transcended his genre whilst still having a legendary standing in the Hip Hop and Rap world.
