Donald Glover (1983), also known by his Hip Hop pseudonym; Childish Gambino is a well know Hip-Hop artist. As well as being a popular Hip-Hop artist, Donald is also a renowned actor, comedian, musician, producer and writer. The dexterous artist was first introduced to the music scene when he released his first mixtapes “Sick Boi” and “Poindexter”. In conjunction with Gambino’s aspiring music career, his acting career was taking off. Shortly after the release of his second mixtape, Gambino made his acting debut on “Community”. Gambino continued to popularise himself and his work with the release of several new mixtapes, his fledging acting career and the release of his self-made electronic music. Following his signing to Glassnote Records, Gambino released his debut album, “Camp”. Gambino’s second album “Because the Internet” could be described as his leap into the conscious of the musical mainstream. The album featured esteemed artists such as Chance the Rapper, Jhené Aiko and Miguel. The project also received widespread critical acclaim and a Grammy nomination. The album was followed by the release of another mixtape (“STN MTN”), an EP (“Kauai”) as well as the release of the TV series “Atlanta”. Glover’s acting and directing would be recognised with an Emmy for his directing role, a Golden Globe for the “Best Actor” and the series also won “Best Television Series- Musical or Comedy”. Gambino’s sustained success was exemplified by his success at the Grammy’s for the popular single, “Redbone”. Glover added to his already impressive profile with appearances in films such as “Spider-Man: Homecoming” and “Solo: A Star Wars Story”, which were both box office successes. In 2018, Gambino made a striking impact on a national and international level with the release of the emotionally charged single “This is America”. The song addressed a range of national and political issues and gained mass critical acclaim, won numerous awards and topped the Billboard 100.
