The Manchester Arena, formerly known as the Phones 4u Arena, and formerly known as the NYNEX and Manchester Evening News (M.E.N.) arenas under sponsorship deals. With a seating capacity of 21,000 the Manchester Phones 4U Arena is that largest indoor arena in all of Europe. It was regarded as the busiest and top arena in the world, before having that title taken away by rival London arena The O2. In operation since 1995, the Manchester Arena was built with the intention of hosting the olympic games, but Manchester’s bids in both 1996 and 2000 failed to bring the world games to the city. The arena, however, has hosted and continues to be a top host of music, comedy, and sporting events. All of the biggest acts who tour through the United Kingdom stop at the Phones 4U Arena. Ice hockey teams the Manchester Storm and the Manchester Phoenix have called Phones 4U home for various season, but nowadays the venue dedicates itself more towards the live concert crowd, with occasional boxing, martial arts, or profesional wrestling matches.
