I'm writing in the hopes that any readers of this article might pass on this request for support to any group you might have (mailing list or otherwise) that would care to sign petitions and/or be vocal at City Council meetings coming up regarding Cell Antenna installations on street lights in residential neighborhoods.

To be clear, we're not proposing a ban on installations in residential areas, just requesting that we manage the installations more tightly to manage the visual impact on our beautiful communities and safeguard our property values.

The City's new policy on Cell Antennas permits Cell companies to attach cell antennas on street lights less than 50 feet from front doors, back doors, all over neighborhoods in the City. There is no minimum setback at all. (Many other cities have protections of 200 ft-600 ft setbacks.) Moreover, there is no cumulative plan requirement so the companies are just coming at the city with singleton requests one after the other. The end result may be hundreds if not thousands of antennas spotting our neighborhoods along with small cabinets, 3-4 foot posts and floor vaults with each one.

The City Council is voting on these new regs/policy July 27 and at that time we can expect to see the number of these residential permit requests triple. (that's precisely what happened in Seattle with similar regulations and they ended up having to issue a moratorium and revise their policies.)

We've set up a web site that has the relevant information for San Diego on it as well as the petition links below. Please forward this to anyone you feel appropriate that might be willing to support our efforts. We need to show the City Council there is overwhelming support from the community city-wide to amend the proposed regulations with these protections to minimize the visual impact on our communities as well as safeguard our property values.
